A Peak Into the Past

By: Mac McClurg

Fernley Moose Lodge #2468 was instituted October 12, 1996. The ceremony started at 4:00 P. M. in the Fernley Masonic Building. Presiding Officer was Milt McGinnis who gave the principles of the order and read the dispensation for the charter. Other officials were: Jr. Governor, Earl Sterm, Prelate Vic Parker, Jr. Past Governor Tom Webb, Sgt. at Arms, Doug Young, and Secretary George Montgomery.

The following officers were installed by Acting Governor Cass Amaker assisted by Acting Sgt. at Arms, Doug Young:

  • Jr. Past Governor Dion O’Toole Outer Guard Mark Souza

  • Inner Guard Glenn Bennett Sgt. at Arms Wayne Algarva

  • 3 Year Trustee Harry Flodman 2 Year Trustee Robert Lynch

  • 1 Year Trustee Earl Karr Treasurer Stanley Shaw

  • Secretary Gordon Lewis Prelate Robert Graham

  • Jr. Governor Ron Bowen Governor Chris Mallars

Starting with 71 Charter members, it has grown to over 240. The Women of the Moose was instituted May 15, 1999 and now have over 150 members.

A special meeting was held May 14, 2001 and the membership voted to accept Reno Lodge #2249 as part of our lodge. This accounts for some of the gain in our membership.

The lodge started in the current Social Quarters building and much remodeling was required and accomplished by the members. In April, 1998 the building next door, which is now our meeting room, was leased and it too required a lot of remodeling.

We belong to the CA/NV Moose Association along with South Lake Tahoe #1632 and Mason Valley #2428 which makes up Comstock District #25. High Sierra Moose Legion #209 is composed of these three lodges as well. Our District meetings and Moose Legion Celebrations are held on the third Sunday of each month. For the past few years, we have held our District meetings in June either at Topaz Lake or Lake Lahontan.
